Time flies!
I can't believe it is the 10th day in the new year. We had a quiet new years eve we usually do. New years day we headed off to Amelia Island, Florida. I was looking through the Atlanta Journal Constitution and sometimes they feature in the arts section vacation destinations. We had already figured we would go to New Orleans but this place seemed more like what we needed.
After a quick call to Mr. Man I found our hotel thanks to AJC. What a great location one block from the beach. Our view from our third floor room looked over the ocean. I could sit on the couch and see it! Wonderful!
Our first day there was rainy/misty more but that doesn't hold us die hard shell seakers from going out.
They had some different shells from what we get one hour up the coast and another hour to Tybee. Yay!
After we were all wet and smelled like the beach we took hot showers and went to The Crab Trap for dinner.
Our next few days there it got cold and windy! That was the same time the northern states were hit by really cold temps and snow, so needless to say being on the beach looking for shells and shark teeth wasn't as pleasant as we hoped.
When I googled their temps on Amelia Island average was mid 60's this time of year but it was about 1/2 that. We still went on the beach but not very long and more often.
We did go to Sandy Bottom restaurant right there on the beach and they had outdoor seating, we enjoyed somewhat of a sunset as we were facing the East with apps and a drink. Nice way to end a very cold day.
We did leave a day early due to the forecast of rain turning into snow flurries we opted to be at home rather than sitting in a hotel room.
We were disappointed we couldn't get to the lighthouse, this is as close as we got along the road.
We talked to many people there, in the shops and the beach all very nice and informative. One older gent gave me a shark tooth. I can't wait to show Mickey this weekend!
Historic downtown Amelia Island has some really cute shops. It's still pretty quiet but by noon this little place was buzzing!
Once we were home I got a call from Joann's that our framing was ready for pick up. I got this idea from Melissa at Sweet Home Quilt Co. When she opened her shop a few of her friends did something like this for her. I loved the idea!
When Mr. Man's parents passed and we were going through their things I grabbed their board. We played on this board many games with them. I thought this would be perfect to have as a keepsake. The board is almost in two so what better way to preserve it.
The words we added has special meaning to us with pictures. We love it! What is even more special is that Mr. Man and I did this together in a couple of evenings and loved thinking about what we would put in it.
I love the distressed frame that the woman at Joann's suggested it goes well with the distressed board. She suggested reddish mat but I liked the blue. So happy we went with the blue. What a treasure!
It's that time of year again to clear my board and start over. We didn't get very many Christmas cards this year and this is the first year we only gave to those closest to us. I usually send out to my great aunts and uncles, cousins and past coworkers but didn't. It saddens me that times have changed and people don't use the mail anymore.
Well much to get done before I pick up Mickey from school so she can spend the weekend with me and papa. Mostly me since papa is taking a Nikon class for his new fancy camera on Saturday. He was going to do the whole weekend class and decided not to since they will offer the second class another time so he could see Mickey too. (the class is all day)
When I picked up our frame I also picked up some new arts and crafts for Mic and I to do, can't wait!
Thanks for the chat!
Hugs,
Tania
